Origin  of the Olympic games 
 

• The  origin of the Olympic games behaves to  the distant past. Ancient Greeks created  the great number of wonderful legends,  telling about that, how the Olympic games  appeared. 

 

Legends assert  that in Olympia near the grave of  Cron, father Zeus, competitions took place  on at run. And as though they were  organized by Zeus, which thus finished  celebrating victory over the father, doing  him the world ruler. 

 
 
 
 

Olympic  games. History and contemporaneity 

• Began  in 776 B.C.  
  Ceased in 394 A.D. (an emperor Theodosius I forbade the Olympic games as heathen cult).

The ancient  Greek athletes competed naked. A word  "gymnastics" originates from a word  "naked" ("gimnos"). A bare body  ignored something shameful - vice versa,  it showed, as a sportsman practiced persistently.  Shameful was to have an unsportsmanlike,  untrained body.
