Inga is working in private enterprise. She gets a salary only once a month, but she knows that in some companies salaries are paid twice in a month. When Inga informed of their desire to receive salary twice a month, employer refused, based on the grounds that this is a private company and organization of payment procedure is right of employer.

Please, give analysis of this case, based on the provisions of the Labour Law of Latvia and Labour Law of any other country. If necessary, indicate differences.

Latvia

An employer has a duty to pay work remuneration not less frequently than two times a month unless the employee and employer have agreed on payment of work remuneration once a month.

So, in the Labour Law of Latvia there is written that salaries in the companies are paid once a month only if the employee and employer have agreed about it, otherwise salary are paid twice a month.

In my opinion the Inga’s employer don’t have any reasons to refuse Inga’s request. They just can sign a new contract, were will be no point about salary once a month.

Dubai

Workers employed on yearly or monthly wage basis shall be paid at least once a month;

In the Labour Law of Dubai there are no strict rules about salaries too, so if Inga wants to get salarie twice a month, she need just arrange for it with her employer.

So, in conclusion I can say that the situation in the Latvia and Dubai is familiar, we don’t have strict law about salary. So employee just have to arrange with his employer. And employer have a free will accept or refuse employees’ request.
