В основі технології виготовлення флексографічних форм лежить таке хімічне явище, як полімеризація. Його суть полягає в тому, що під впливом УФ-світла вільні мономери, що утримуються в чуттєвому шарі пластини, групуються й утворять стійкі полімери.
На сьогодняшній день існують аналогова та цифрова технології виготовлення фотополімерних друкарських форм.
CtF - Computer-to-Film (комп’ютер – фотоформа) - технологія виготовлення друкарських форм, при якій дані з комп’ютера передаються в пристрій, якій фотографічним способом наносить зображення на спеціальну фотоплівку, яка в подальшому використовується для виготовлення друкарських форм традиційним методом копіювання в копіювальній рамі.
