When we hear the word “a case”, we firstly think about a tightly closed thing without any chink for air to get into. We even have an impression that it is impossible to exist inside of it, but a strange thing is that inside we can find a wonderful violin. And it feels very comfortable, as everything exists only for it. The same thing comes to “the man in a case”. It is rather comfortable for him to live in his limited world, hidden from everyone and everything.

I’am going to analyze the text “Three men in the boat”. The author of this text is Jerome K. Jerome. He is a popular English writer. The most famous works are Three Men in a Boat, The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, Novel Notes. He is famous for his art of story-telling and his humour which is based on misunderstanding. He is good at revealing the weak sides of human nature.
This text is about three men who decided to cook an Irish stew. Jerome presents his story as 1st-person narration with elements of the description. In this story we can dearly distinguish three main characters: the narrator, Harris and George. The general slant of the story is realistic, the emotive key is prosaic, with some shades of humor.

Головна мета роботи полягає у вивченні суфіксації, як одного з найпродуктивніших способів словотвору, визначенні похідних іменників із суфіксом -mаn у сучасній англійській мові. Опис проведено у синхронному плані з позицій семантико-граматичного словотвору.
Реалізація поставленої мети передбачає розв’язання таких завдань:
опрацювати наукові дослідження пов’язані з питаннями словотвору в сучасній англійській мові;
визначити корпус похідних іменників із суфіксом -man;
подати синхронний опис семантико-структурних зв’язків зазначених похідних з мотиваторами;
встановити словотвірний потенціал мотиваторів;
виявити та охарактеризувати типи смислових співвідношень одиниць мотиваційних пар в умовах кожного словотвірного значення з урахуванням семантичних об’ємів одиниць мотиваційних пар.
