  • In Kazakhstan, the first local production units did not come into being until the late 1920s, under the impetus of the Soviet power which considered cinema as a powerful propaganda instrument to support collectivisation, modernisation and the fight against Islam. Something of a The film industry in Kazakhstan began only in the 1930s. In the 1940s the mighty men of Soviet cinema (Eisenstein, Pudovkin, Vertov) and some few thousand film workers descended on Almaty, near the Chinese border. Stalin had decided during the war to shift his two main film studios from Moscow and Leningrad to Almaty, then the capital of Kazakhstan, the Soviet Union's largest republic.
  • In the 1950s that Shaken Aimanov, the founder of Kazakh national cinema, made his first film. Although Kazakh cinema celebrated its 70th birthday last year, one could argue national film history only began in 1954 when the first Kazakh fiction film was made, Shaken Aimanov's "A Love Poem".
  • When the studios left, after the war. the seeds of film-making were deeply planted. There was uncertain progress during the first "new wave" of Kazakh filmmakers in the 1960s. Film was particularly successful at the end of the Sixties. Films such as Sultan Khodjikov's Kyz Jibek (1971) and Shaken Aimanov's The End of Ataman (1971) were great popular successes. K. Kassymbekov's children's film Chok and Cher (1971) won the first international award, the Monte Carlo Festival silver award. But both Shaken Aimanov and Majit Begalin died a tragic death and Kazakh film was on the decline. The first wave of Kazakh cinema had ended.

  • In 2006, “Kazakhfilm” started the “People’s Choice: Golden Collection of Kazakh Cinema” campaign. Twenty films out of fifty that were chosen by the audience have been restored. The leaders of the rating were “Abai” (A Amirkulov, 1995), “Enemy, be Afraid of the Ninth Son” (V Pusurmanov, V Chugunov, 1984), “Blood and Sweat” (A Mambetov, Y Mastyugin, 1978), “Zhambyl” (E Dzigan, 1955), and “The Legendary Chokan” (A Ashimov, Tsoy Guk In, 1984).
  • “Kazakhfilm” held “A New Documentary of Kazakhstan” festival dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan in Almaty in March 2011.
  • The “I’m 20 Years Old” film about the life of young people who are the same age as the independence of Kazakhstan, made by students of the T Zhurgenev Kazakh National Academy of Art in Almaty, will be of great importance.

  • For the development of Kazakh Film in the country to create the oldies, similar institutions in Russia fund Film.
  • According to Baurjan Shukenov, the problem of Kazakhstan's film is that most of the films funded. In addition, officials are taken those pictures, which should be allocated money. According Shukenov should consider establishing a fund consisting of professional filmmakers who would be engaged in the selection of potential film projects. "Here it's one way to move this thing, because the movie - it's money" - said Shukenov.

After a successful show Kazakh film "Zhauzhurek Myn Bala" in this prestigious international competition Telling agent for its world-hire.

Foreign critics say that with such high quality movies Kazakh cinema capable of much.

Despite the huge success at home, the creators of this unique, large-scale, international film project "Zhauzhurek myn bala" before a session in Cannes noticeably worried. After breaking all box office records in Kazakhstan, had to know the opinion of foreign audiences and the masters of world cinema. Story of young soldiers who bravely fought djungars Anyrakay famous battle, love and betrayal, the desire for freedom and independence. Do not play a Hollywood star, and the film is in Kazakh. But the picture "Zhauzhurek Myn Bala" was understandable to a wide audience of any generation. The plot of the film, its historical size and performance skills have been deservedly recognized at the Cannes Film Festival.

  • Pierre Spengler, producer (UK)

-I am very impressed with the quality of the film itself, the quality of acting. All on high level- and self filmmaking and epic scope, and tricks, as well as other elements. All it needs to attract the viewer. The more I looked, "Myn bala", so diligently sought to excuse yourself to go to Kazakhstan and remove yourself there. With such high quality Film with high-potential Kazakh cinema capable of much. I wish you to new heights. "
  • "Zhauzhurek Myn Bala" was the leader of sales in 2012

  • "Shal" (Kazakh Shal) - Kazakh film director Ermek Tursunov, a film based on a story by Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea." Premiere took place October 11, 2012.
  • The film is the second part of the trilogy, the filmmakers intended. The first film was a film “Kelin”.
  • Director: Ermek Tursunov
    Producer: Alexander Vovnyanko
    Author script: Ermek Tursunov
    Cast: Erbolat Toguzak, Isbek Abilmazhinov
  • In the film, the action takes place in the rural areas in modern Kazakhstan. The main character, an old man, about to drive off the sheep in the pasture, getting lost in the desert. In trying to find the right way he repeatedly runs into a pack of wolves.

Meanwhile, his grandson goes in search of his grandfather with the help of neighbors and rescue services.

  • Despite the fact that Kazakhstan has little knowledge of national cinema, films are shot, but the directors and film critics have expressed various concerns about the future of our cinema.

Gulnara Abikeeva expresses rather pessimistic view of the future of our film. She fears that if the production of pictures and will be reduced, then soon most Kazakh directors leave the country, at least in Uzbekistan

Maxim Smagulov believes that Uzbekistan lacks its directors. Film developing and will continue to evolve, there is only one solution to the problems of Kazakh cinema - access to the world, particularly the U.S., the Hollywood film market.

"There will be money, and film will be" - says Leila Ahinzhanova.

Film experts placed their hopes on the young. They are called the "new-new" Kazakh cinema.
  • Now the most important producer of the movie is "Kazakhfilm" because most of the money accumulated there. I think over time the national studio can become what it became for Russian cinema Goskino Russia. Of 140-150 produced about 60 paintings there are partial funding from the State Committee for Cinematography, and give some of the money investors. Such a model of filmmaking seems most appropriate. After all, a picture of one hundred percent raise by the state, on the one hand, it is, on the other - there is no guarantee of return of money spent on it. If private money will be involved, the producer is interested in the box picture, its overseas sales and promotion to festivals.
