Samuelson was born in Gary, Indiana, on May 15, 1915, to Frank Samuelson, a pharmacist, and the former Ella Lipton Jewish immigrants from Poland. In 1923 Samuelson moved to Chicago. He studied at the University of Chicago and received his Bachelor of Arts degree there in 1935. He then completed his Master of Arts degree in 1936, and his Doctor of Philosophy in 1941 at Harvard University. As a graduate student at Harvard, Samuelson studied economics under Joseph Schumpeter, Wassily Leontief, Gottfried Haberler, and the "American Keynes" Alvin Hansen. The world of modern telecommunication technology is awash with acronyms, long numbers and other weird bits of code that few people understand. The term WiFi should be relatively easy because it’s a play on the words 'high-fidelity' or 'hi-fi', which means sound reproduction that is very similar to the original. But 'WiFi' doesn't really stand for wireless fidelity. It’s simply a catchy term for equipment using a particular wireless communication standard, or protocol, known as IEEE 802.11 (more about this bit of code later). Using this standard, computers and other devices can link in a wireless local area network (WLAN), which is a number of computers or computer-like devices that can talk to each other using high-frequency radio waves instead of connecting cables. The WLAN can in turn be hooked into the internet, usually with the aid of a cable.

I’m writing a customer service report that will compare quality of customer service in two competing companies. These companies should be located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. I will compare customer service experience in Wal-Mart and Target. I’m planning to visit both of the stores once and I pretend that I would like to buy a digital camera and need some information about different cameras. I will visit in these stores later this week. A main criterion that I will evaluate is the knowledge of the sales clerk because I need more detailed information about cameras. Other criteria that I will evaluate are for example that if it was easy to find a sales clerk and how long it took.
Both Wal-Mart and Target are department stores that provide a broad variation of different products. Wal-Mart stores carry general merchandise and a selection of groceries. Many of these stores also have a garden center, a pharmacy, Tire &Lube Express, optical center, one- hour photo processing lab, portrait studio, a bank branch, a cell phone store and a fast food outlet. In such circumstances, a word ending in phobia is bound to be appropriate, because this is now the standard term for any extreme aversion, irrational fear or dread. After searching my sources for examples of the appropriate word, curiosity led me to look into similar terms.
It is so strongly associated with modern psychiatry and pop-psychology that it is a little surprising to discover that as a word in its own right phobia dates back as far as 1786. Its source is the Greek word meaning “fear; horror”, which also turns up in a closely-related form in the name of one of the two moons of Mars, Phobos, so called in 1877 by its discoverer, the American Asaph Hall, after one of the two horses that in legend pulled the war chariot of the Greek god of war (the other being Deimos, “panic”, which name he gave to the other moon)

In order to understand this sphere of borrowings from French one must bear in mind that the first loans were to be found in the upper classes who spoke Anglo-Norman. This fact led to French loans being automatically placed on a level above the normal everyday English vocabulary. Up to the present-day this characteristic of French words in English has remained. While it is true that some of the common French borrowings have become part of the basic stock of English vocabulary (cf. air, age, cry, change, large, manner, mountain, place, point, village, voice) a large quantity of words has remained on a stylistically higher level alongside the lower English terms. This results in such word pairs as the following which are distinguished more by register than by basic meaning: dress : clothe; amity : friendship; commence : begin; conceal : hide; nourish : feed; liberty : freedom.
