6)Success In Life

"Success usually comes to those who are too busy to look for it" - Henry David Thoreau

What does success mean to people? Are people successful because they have happy lives and succesful in their own way? Success means different things to different people. Some people think that this is when they carry all before themselves. Someone says that success isn`t important in their lives. But it is.

Maybe success is to have a lot of money! Perhaps. For some people it is measured in financial terms, by the amount of money they posses. In many professions it plays a very important role in such competitive spheres as sport, show business etc. Success at school is impotant to all students and for me too. There is one thing that worries me. While we are all madly trying to compete with some successful people, for example actors, singers, businessmen and others, the rest part of our life is passing by. People can`t work all days and nights long just earning money because we aren`t machines, we`re living beings. I think that it is when I pull myself up by my bootstraps when I make head-way. I don`t want to make a name for myself. I think that success is when you love, because love is natural only for humans. Some people say that the sky is the limit, but the only opinion I have is that the biggest success is to be human.

7)Globalisation

It can be described as a process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and function together in economical, political, ideological and cultural fields. We can’t say for sure what it is – a problem or a blessing as I think there are many advantages and disadvantages of globalization. On the one hand we can see that financial and production capitals are becoming international ones. It can lead to increase in common wealth and trade. The second thing is acceleration of communication facilities. It’s connected with development of falling-behind countries, which don’t have good infrastructure. And thirdly, I think that interdependence warn us about entering a war. Because if we destroyed one country another states couldn’t use there resources in own purposes. But on the other hand there are many disadvantages. At first I’d like to say about dependence of small countries (companies) on big and strong ones. It can also be said about parent companies, which sign licensing and franchising agreements with subsidiaries. Domination of one company or country is leading to unemployment. It occurs because parent companies need only definite quantity of people and only the staff of definite professions. Other processes accompanying globalization are terrorism, smuggling drugs, proliferation of nuclear weapon and ecological problems, which are common in our country. Globalization touches on even culture. E.g., we can tell about globalization of language. It is used to think that English is global language. It was chosen like the easiest and the most comprehensible one. It isn’t so difficult like Chinese or Russian. This are indisputably tarnish globalization but I think that globalization is a necessary process.

8)Fast food is one of those subjects that seem to provoke a lot of debate in people – those who eat it and those who advise us against it. But the industry is booming, and there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of new fast food outlets opening...

Some advantages of eating fast food.

In my point of view, the first and foremost benefit fast food brings to customers is time and speed saving. Fast food, therefore, becomes a popular choice of many people. By coming to restaurants, which sell fast food, the customers are quickly served; they can save a lot of time to do other things instead of cooking at home or waiting for the meal to be cooked at restaurant. In addition fast food helps people to handle the meal as soon and comfortably as possible. Besides, meal price is also an advantage of fast food with the ones who live alone. It is often cheaper to have a meal when you stay alone. You can save an amount of money when there is no gas fee to cook, transportation fee to buy food.

Some disadvantages of fast food

Eating fast food too often can badly affect your own health. It is necessary to have fast food in moderation as fat, salt and calories are rich in meal ingredient. Obesity in children and diseases caused by too much fat in adult's body can be stemmed from fast food eating routine. Researches show that it is unhealthy for people to live near fast food restaurant. People who live within walking distance from fast food restaurants have higher rate of being stroked with 13 percent.

The quick development of fast food is breaking much family's mealtime. More and more teenagers and young people are engrossed in having fast food with friends and their peers. Mealtime is considered a family meeting time, all members take turns to talk about their activities and feelings during the day.

Fast food is an invention of the modern times. By making some smart choices while placing the order and also resorting to an active lifestyle, we can definitely minimize the drawbacks of fast food.

9)Books in my life

A book is one of the greatest wonders of world. Why are so many people fond of reading? The world of books is full of wonders. Together with the characters of books you can find yourself in different and countries, have a lot of adventures. The book is a faithful friend. They form our values and characters. We try to look like the characters of your favourite books: to be brave, honest, not to be silly and greedy, to be real friends. We enjoyed the beauty and wisdom of fairy-tales and fables when we were babies and Granny read them. I think that we can't live without them. I consider that books are with us during all our life. When I was a child my parents read them to me. I was pleased to listen to the stories and tales. I learned a lot of interesting things from books. I remember, I liked thick books. Later I could read myself. I like to read books about animals, nature and children. I like to get presents on my birthday. I am happy if it is a book. It doesn't matter what kind of book it is. I like to read almost all books.

10)Entertainment

I am fond of good books and good music, and when I have some time to spare, I like to go to the theatre or a concert. There are more than a dozen very good orchestras in Britain and some of them are world famous. Orchestras in Britain have no concert halls of their own, but play in halls rented from local authorities or private companies. There are 2 big concert halls in London. The Old Royal Albert Hall and the New Royal Festival Hall, which is one of the most modern concert halls in the world. Theatrical perfomances are given by theatre companies. There are about 200 professional theatres in Britain. Like orchestras, the theatre companies usually play in rented theatres, but there are several theatres which have their own homes. The center of the actrical life is London. London is also the main center of opera and ballet. I am not particulaly fond of the cinema. Rather then take trouble of going out to see a film, I would stay at home and watch television. I seemed to share this attitude with the most other people in Britain. In Britain the choice of films is limited to young people. Films are placed in one of three categories in Britain. "U" - suitable for everybody, "A" - more suitable for adults, "X" - suitable only for adults. A person under 16 years of age may see an "A" filem only in company of an adult. Only person over 16 years of age may see "X" films. Those, who prefer to stay at home may spend their free time, watching TV, listening to the radio. They have many TV and radio programs to choose from.As for me, I am a great cinema-goer. I like the cinema tremendously. I see all the best films that are on. I prefer features films, though I enjoy documentaries almost as much to say nothing of animated cartoons films, news-reels or popular science films. I usually go to the cinema for the morning or day shows. If I want to go to an evening show I book tickets beforehand. I like to come to hte cinema a couple of minutes before the movie starts. If there is a long time to wait I can always look at the portraits of film stars hanging on the walls of the foyer, or listen to a little concert that is usually given for the spectators. It is a good idea, that those who are late are not allowed to enter the hall until the news-reel is over. I hate being disturbed when a film is on. If I like a movie very much I go to see it a second time and besides I see many of the movies televised. I often read the paper "Film Week" to know which films have been released and which ones are being shot. I know all the famous script writers, producers and cameramen.

11)Television and Advertisement

Many people have forgotten what the world was like before TV. But today it has become an integral part of our lives. No medium can compare with TV as a means of information, entertainment & education. TV now plays such an important role in so many people's lives that it is essential for us to try to decide whether it is bad or good.On the first place TV is not only a convenient source of entertainment, but also a comparatively cheap one. For a family of 4, for example, it is more convenient as well as cheaper to sit comfortably at home than to go out. They don't have to pay for expensive tickets. All they have to do is to turn on TV and they can see films, political discussions and the latest exciting football matches. Some people say that this is fist where the danger lies. The TV viewers need do nothing: they make no choices, they're completely passive & don't even use their legs.TV, people often say, informs about current events and the latest developments in science and politics. A lot of good films, music programs have appeared recently on TV. Yet here again there is a danger. We get to like watching TV so much that it begins to dominate our lives. A friend of mine told me that when his TV set broke he & his family suddenly found that they had much more time to do things. The most important thing which is really criticizing is poor quality of the programs and its harmful effect on children. For example the film "Natural Born Killers" teaches children to kill and there was one accident in France when a group of teenagers kill their parents. There are many arguments for and against TV. I think we must understand that TV in itself is neither good nor bad. TV is as good or as bad as we make it.

12)The Price of Fame

Almost everybody dreams about being famous sport star or a great actor. But does everybody know how hard it is to have such job? In my opinion being famous is very difficult and people who are famous deserve all the money they earn. Star should be polite and kind because he or she is an example to be followed for many young people. Famous people work hard long hours every day and do their best for their fans. Also I think that famous people don’t have private lives, they don’t see their relatives and friends often. A lot of stars lose themselves and pretend a lot. They are who their fans want them to be. It is not always easy to be famous. And for a famous, beautiful princess like Diana, life was certainly very difficult at times. She was born on the first of July in 1961 in Norfolk, England. Her parents divorced when she was a little girl. Diana studied at a boarding school in Kent, and then in Switzerland. She was just twenty years old when she married Prince Charles, and from that moment millions of people around the world watched every move she made. She was kind and helpful; Diana helped poor, homeless and sick people, so her nickname was “the people’s princess”. But Diana’s life wasn’t as happy as it seemed to be – she and Prince Charles had problems with their marriage and they finally divorced in 1996. Diana continued traveling round the world and help people, photographers still followed her everywhere - even on that terrible night in Paris when Diana's young life ended. She died on the thirty-first of August in 1997. She was only 36 years old. As for me, I agree that being famous sounds nice, but it is very hard. I guess I don’t want to be really famous. Yes, famous people have everything – money, popularity and fame, but stars lose much more – their private lives and their friends.

13)Generation Gap. (Family Climate)

Most people say that а family is very important for them. They like to repeat that families give them а sense of tradition, strength and purpose in their lives. ’’Our families show what we are", they say. Most parents teach their children to respect elder people and observe holidays. But the most important thing for а family is to give an emotional support and security. The right family values help boys and girls to gain confidence and resist the influence of bad friends.

Teenagers often consider their parents old-fashioned, unaware of the latest style. As for their parents they do their best to give their children а better chance than they had themselves. After finishing school children often try to get complete independence, they leave their homes and sometimes even their native towns. Staying with parents has its negative and positive aspects but children must understand that parents don' t want to do them any harm. That's why sometimes young people have to listen to criticism from their parents.

Some people often speak about the so-called "generation gap" that is а gap in views between parents and teenagers, but the majority of people think that this generation gap is sometimes exaggerated. Very often children feel neglected in their families. When they find cruelty, indifference and misunderstanding in their families they become divide and heartless themselves. As а result children feel hurt and some of them try to escape from the reality by tuning to alcohol and drugs. So all of us should pay more attention to family problems, we must avoid quarrels and look for consent. We must remember about spiritual values and all people should live in peace and harmony.

14)What I think about my career of interpreter

”We are human-beings as many times as many languages we know”.

But unfortunately, to know and speak a foreign language and to interpret and translate into or from are two different things.

First of all, knowledge of a foreign language enables people from different countries to communicate with each other, to read foreign literature in the original, to broaden their outlooks and so on. Secondly, interpreting and translating, as it turned out, are much more complicated and responsible processes and job. Though nevertheless, profession of interpreter and translator is very important and useful because it helps people to understand each other, to make new contacts, build international business etc. Besides, an interpreter and translator meets people from different countries and cultures all the time and has an opportunity to learn much about them.

As we are graduating, I understand that I've only really just begun perceive this job, and I realize how much more I need to learn.

But suffice it to say that I can feel a sense of pride; pride in what I've learned and accomplished {so far}; in the many terrific people I've met; in the desire to continue to grow in the interpreting profession; in the positive changes not only in my life, but also in my perspective of the world and its peoples and cultures.

15)MASS MEDIA

The Mass media have an important role in modern society as the main channel of communication. People rely on the mass media as the main source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions. Competition between the mass media companies is very high because they keep fighting for the attention of the readers, listeners and TV-viewers. Moreover they have just enormous profit showing the news that form that point of view they want. The income from advertising and sponsoring is proportional to the number of readers and viewers. The printed media have problems competing with the electronic-media as sources of news. In order to survive, they are increasingly turning to other strategies, such as entertainment, spreading fear, show scandals and spend fewer resources on serious researching of news. Such newspapers called tabloid newspapers. TV stations do not compete on ideologies but on impression. They try to entertain the viewers. For example music videos are the mixture of good music and picture.

Media scientists have often discussed how much influence the media have on people’s opinion. So they come to the conclusion that if you have already formed your opinion and it is very strong, media have little power to change it, but if you haven’t – media have a great impact on you.

16)POLITICAL SITUATION

Our country had a very difficult historic situation in any time of mankind history. Unfortunately, since the time Ukraine has become a state, our country was never free. This is a fact that almost everyone of leader-countries was trying to enslave people who lived here, to occupy lands of those people and not to give to increase their level of life. However that was danger from the outside and brave people were able to stop them in contrast to nowadays where we have danger from the inside. In 2004 there were elections in Ukraine. As we already know, with the assistance of hundreds people from western Ukraine the power in a country was taken by so-called "oranges", and this capture was named "orange revolution", and until 2009 Ukraine was under economical crisis because of them. In 2010 we finally understood that we want live in better conditions and we elected new president of our country - V. Yanukovich.

As about my personal attitude to that period I can tell that our authorities were not politicians they were comedians and everything they did I can name the show business. They made a lot of money and we help them in it. It is said we chose our future by ourselves and I want that we should first think and then chose.

17)BEAUTY

Beauty presents a standard of comparison, and it can cause resentment and dissatisfaction when not achieved. People who do not fit the "beauty ideal" may be ostracized within their communities. The television sitcom Ugly Betty portrays the life of a girl faced with hardships due to society's unwelcoming attitudes toward those they deem unattractive. However, a person may also be targeted for harassment because of their beauty. In Malèna, a strikingly beautiful Italian woman is forced into poverty by the women of the community who refuse to give her work for fear that she may "woo" their husbands. How much money a person earns may also be influenced by physical beauty. One study found that people low in physical attractiveness earn 5 to 10 percent less than ordinary looking people, who in turn earn 3 to 8 percent less than those who are considered good looking. Discrimination against others based on their appearance is known as lookism.

Standards of beauty are always evolving, based on what a culture considers valuable. Historical paintings show a wide range of different standards for beauty. However, humans who are relatively young, with smooth skin, well-proportioned bodies, and regular features, have traditionally been considered to be the most beautiful throughout history.

18)RELATIONSHIP

Relations, appearing between people in the process of their intercourse, activity, are determined as public relations. For example, it is possible to apply these relations: work, political, legal, moral, religious, psychological and other. Relations between people influenced on society even more excessively than it should be in my opinion. Nowadays this is a fact that we cannon find work without “good acquaintance”. As psychologists said, our necessity to be involved and to belong to others is named relationship. First place I suppose is taken by personal relations. We are seeking for emotional given back

Is it difficult for you to make choices?

We make choices every day and our life become more convenient or comfortable because of them. For ex. What to eat, what to buy. All chess lovers realize that it isn’t necessary to win to enjoy the game. The pleasure is in the playing. Life is like a chess game. Make the best moves (choices) you can under the circumstances. If you live by the rule, you will always enjoy the game of life. As for me it is very difficult to make choices. I always thing very long time. I don’t know what choice would be best. I’m always afraid that I will choice the worse variant. I always ask my relatives or friends what to do. Choice is ability to select one course of action to achieve a goal. If you could choose the right choice you can achieve everything is interrelated. But whatever happened before taking decisions you should always think properly and I you will do it everything will be OK.

One of the most important choice in my life was my future carrier. I want to be an interpreter. I like English. English is one of the world languages. It is the language of progressive science and technology, trade and business. It’s a language of international aviation. Hundred of books, magazines, and newspapers, are printed in English.

I want to be an interpreter because of some reasons: it is an interesting and useful work. It’s interesting because you can meets people from different countries, can learn a lot of information about culture of their countries. This profession is very useful because it helps people to understand each other.
